On the 28th of January, the appearance day of Lord Nityananda, we celebrated the opening of our new Hare Krishna center in Brasilia-DF, the capital of Brazil.
It was a historic occasion. After so many decades of ISKCON activities in Brasilia, we were finally opening the doors to our own, fully owned center. No more rent to pay!
The suite is small but it was nicely renovated. The colors and lighting are very relaxing and soothing. The guests and the devotees were very pleased with it.
Our group works in a cooperative manner, with a democratic decision process. As soon as a guest becomes more interested and starts to frequent our program regularly, we invite that person to join in the administrative group. Our objective is to make people feel that this is their mission, their organization, as soon as possible.
We are also getting our local devotees and well-wishers to become active members of our Association, which involves them pledging to donate a fixed amount every month. In exchange they get to be involved in general and also get discounts in the courses we will soon be offering there, such as yoga and vegetarian cooking.
In our celebration yesterday, we had Carana Renu Dasi leading a soulfoul kirtan in the beginning. Then I gave a class, reading from the Caitanya Bhagavata, on the mercy of Lord Nityananda in his Jagai-Madhai pastime. I emphasized Lord Chaitanya’s supreme instruction:
“bolo krishna, bhajo krishna, koro krishna siksa”
“chant Krishna’s name, worship Krishna, follow and distribute Krishna’s instructions”
I explained how this was the soul of Prabhupada’s Movement and that, in opening one more center for Prabhupada, we were humbly hoping to help him in this.
We finished the night with a rousing kirtan, lead by Amrta Gopal Dasi (JPS), followed by lots and lots of prasadam.
There are still some finishing touches to be made (hanging pictures, curtains for the altar, etc.). And we still have many bills to pay from the renovation! So, please, if you can help us, with any small donation, we would be very grateful. You can send your donation by PayPal to email@example.com.
We ask for the blessings of all the devotees that our new Hare Krishna center may give great pleasure to Srila Prabhupada and Lord Nityananda.
